Fast Play Flames: the need for speed

Fast Play Flames: the need for speed

By Ry

Late last year I had my first experience in playing 1250 point fast play tournament held at Games Cube Parramatta and it was a heap of fun. The fast play challenge starts well before the dice start rolling, the limited points and mobile missions creates a challenge for Flames of war gamers of all levels. With limited time to paint a new force, I took a guards Sherman list hoping that the unflappable and semi indirect fire special rules would make up for my usual poor rolling. For the most part it worked, but supporting Sextons and Stuarts failed to punch their weight or became useless in a fight with big cats. Resulting in a respectable 6th place, with the highlight being winning against Paul Collins Australia’s number one player, it was more luck than skill 😉

CanCon 2015: TO’s report

Another Cancon done…

By Ken Snell

Another long weekend for Australia Day has come and gone, and so has another Cancon!

The festivities began on Friday, when 40 players attended the Australian War Memorial Technology Annex in Mitchell. Judging by the comments this was a great tour, and will remain a feature of the long weekend gaming experience at Cancon for our FoW players.

For Flames of War, there was something for everyone: The Early War tournament attracted 31 players, and Mid War saw 23 intrepid combatants battling from the Baltic to the deserts of North Africa. For the marathoners, Night Flames saw the first inclusion at Cancon of Arab-Israeli War with nine warriors facing off across the Sinai Peninsula. We also got a hit of Late War in Night Flames with 17 players battling for bragging rights (was pretty spectacular watching Brumbar’s doing donuts!)

PART 2

Now….to start on the figures.

VMC 886 Green Grey for the shoes…..if I go over the black shoes in grey….they don’t look like they’ve just been fitted at a shoe store.

VMC 921 British Uniform now for the pants and all figures.

Again….I’m trying to leave the cracks and crevices black and just paint the raised surfaces.

I don’t know about you….but as I get older and progress through my hobby I get better at painting figures. It gets to a point where you look back at what you painted when you started and it’s so bad that you don’t want to take it out of the case anymore. This 25 Pounder Battery is such a case. I bought and painted them about 6 years ago and don’t even want to look at them anymore. As a result I’ve decided to re-do them and give them a…. extreme makeover.

Please note that David uses a mix range of paints, to make it easier for the reader all paints have be matched to the Vallejo Model Color.

Australian Early War Grand Tournment 2014 – Results

2014-Tournament-LogoThe stage was set on the 6th & 7th of December 2014 at Hall of Hero’s Campbelltown for the Australian Flames of War two day Early War Grand Tournament 2014. With the late addition of the much anticipated Barbarossa book into the tournament, lists were frantically prepared for the 1550 point limit. Much talk was about the impact Barbarossa would have on Early War, so I have included the top three lists and the top generals list.

How to Paint an A7V tank step by step

How to Paint an A7V tank GGBX01 Battlefront

Well I was planning to enter my A7V’s in the Battlefront Great War Painting Competition but could only get my Stoss Platoon ready in time.

For me the A7V’s were the first items built from the great box set Biltz’s Battlegroup (GGEAB1) and took about 2 minutes to clean-up ready for the painting table.

After spending far too much time on google images looking at A7V’s it was time to start.

Check out the finished result.
